My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dixie! 🖤🤍🐾
Dixie is an almost 11-year-old black-and-white terrier mix with the gentlest soul. This very sweet girl is extremely shy and is looking for a calm, quiet home where love is given softly and patiently. She needs time, understanding, and a kind heart—but once she feels safe, her sweetness truly shines.

Dixie is very food motivated (the quickest way to her heart!) and enjoys easy, relaxed walks, making her a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates a slower pace. She tends to prefer women and would do best in a peaceful environment without a lot of noise or activity.

Dixie is hoping for a special forever home—one filled with quiet love, patience, and gentle reassurance—where she can finally relax and enjoy her golden years feeling safe and cherished. 🐾

More about this shelter

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to serving the animals and community of Southwest Florida. We receive no federal, state, or county funding, nor do we receive financial support from the Humane Society of the United States. Instead, our lifesaving work is made possible through the generosity of individual donations, grants, bequests, and community fundraising efforts.

As a no kill shelter, Gulf Coast Humane Society is committed to providing compassionate care for unwanted, neglected, and abandoned animals. We never euthanize due to space constraints or the length of time an animal has been in our care. Our mission is to give every animal the second chance they deserve in a safe and loving environment.
