My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Moche! Moche is being fostered here at the rescue in east TN. Out of state welcome however you would need to come here to meet him. He is not eligible for transport only because he is so fearful of new people.
His story is quite sad actually. Keep in mind he is such a sweet boy once you establish trust with him. He is more of a ladies man and here is why. He was adopted from us back in 2020, born at the beginning of December 2019 or the end of November 2019. He had two siblings and their names at the time were Twix-his sister, Butterfinger-his brother and his name was Snickers. He was adopted and we did everything right with the adoption process and it was a great home with a woman who loved him dearly. Covid came and his owner’s world sort of changed and he was never given the chance to meet new people or other dogs or even go anywhere. He stayed home with his one human and his best friend a kitty, He snuggled with this kitty and they were besties. His owner contacted us a couple of weeks ago and said she had to return him and not because she wanted to but because it was the best thing for him. She had been overcome with mental health issues, there was a death in her family and she was facing eviction, She could not take care of him anymore because she couldn’t take care of herself.
His first few days here were very difficult because he was terrified of us and of everything new. Since he was used to a woman he warmed up to the female of the house by the fourth day and allowed petting. Now that he trusts her he is a snuggle bug and begs for attention using his paw to tap for attention and loves to give you his tummy for tummy rubs. He is taking considerable time to warm up to the man of the house but is getting better. We feel confident that if you allow him time he will be the same with you. It’s not his fault at all for the lack of socialization he never got. He was fearful for his life in those first few days. Six years with one person and a best friend kitty. No vet visits, no visits to family or friends and no one came over to visit. He had no clue what other humans were or if they meant harm or not. We are working with him to help him overcome his fear and exposing him to new people and new things.
What he needs is time and patience and a loving owner who will help him with his new life and learn to love what the world has to offer.
The perfect new home would ideally be with a single woman. He is amazing with cats and dogs so if you have other pets that would just be a bonus for him. This person would need to be patient and give him a few days to trust and must also be willing to help him learn what the world is about by taking him places, having visitors (they don’t need to pet him he just needs to know their presence is not a threat). He is not aggressive at all he will not run across the room and attack he will hide in the corner in fear. If they ignore him and allow him to meet them on his terms he will eventually be fine with them.
He really is a precious soul who was dealt a really bad hand in the card game of life. He needs someone to love him and show him the world is not to be feared but to be enjoyed.
He will be current on vaccines, he is chipped, he will be heartworm tested and we feel pretty confident it will be negative. He is crate trained however he doesn’t really need to be crated because he is so well behaved inside the house. He will potty outside and understands when you tell him to go potty. He is so well mannered on a leash. We were excited that he was ok with the other dogs. He had not met another dog since he was a baby at about 8 weeks of age when he knew his siblings. He now isl excited with the other dogs and is starting to play with them as well.

Please consider this precious boy and give him a chance. We also train dogs and he will come with all the training advice and free sessions (here with us in Athens or online virtually) that you could ever need for him.

More about this rescue

WHY & HOW
Let us start off by telling you the “WHY” and how we set out on this mission. We rescued our first fur-kid from the side of the road several years ago and she turned out to be the best companion we could ever hope for. She was homeless, abandoned, dumped on the side of the road and left to fend for herself in order to survive. As heartbreaking as it is, the realization hit us that this sadly is not uncommon. We later decided to find her a playmate and searched the databases for her new friend and that is when we were hit hard with the fact that there were literally thousands of dogs that needed to be saved! We believe in our hearts that no pet should ever have to face being forgotten, unwanted and unloved. We dream that one day we won’t be needed and that all humans will see these beautiful souls for what they are….. love in the purest form. It is our job to make this happen.
PET PATH’S MISSION
Our mission is to save the lives of the healthy and friendly dogs that are homeless, abused, abandoned or on death row at a kill shelter. We save them through a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care to find good matches for both the dogs and the potential adopters. We educate the adopters on the responsibility and potential costs of their new family member prior to adoption commitment. This is necessary to ensure these dogs are placed in loving fur-ever homes and are never left in the same position we rescue them from.
WE’RE A NOT FOR PROFIT PROGRAM
We are an all-volunteer, home based, foster based, certified 501(c)(3) dog rescue/placement organization based in South East Tennessee. We operate with the use of our own personal home as fosters to each of our rescued pets, by utilizing approved foster homes, networking with several local rescues, shelters and transports, by using social media and web related databases and of course at our adoption event/expos.. Part of our mission is to establish strong trusting relationships with other rescue groups so that we can network together to save more lives.
PET PATH IN THE COMMUNITY
We also serve our community by educating and encouraging responsible pet ownership with an emphasis on the need for spaying and neutering. We keep the community informed of local spay and neuter options. Every single one of our dogs are spayed or neutered before being adopted.
RE-HOMING SERVICES
We will offer a re-homing service to the public to encourage them to foster and keep their own pets until we find them a new home. This will keep them out of the shelters and increase their chance for a healthy happy life.
THE UNDER DOG
The majority of our dogs come from numerous animal control shelters in the southeast region of Tennessee. We strive to save the forgotten ones, the ones that no one comes for, the ones that become urgent because their time has run out. We are committed to providing the dogs that come into Pet Path with the best possible care while they wait for their fur-ever homes. We do this by acclimating them to life outside of a shelter and providing them with appropriate veterinary care. We do not euthanize healthy friendly pets for space, we work against that completely. Because we do not kill, we unfortunately cannot accept all dogs if we do not have the resources or fosters necessary to provide adequate care for them.
We strive to work with everyone that wants to become part of the solution that is necessary to end the killing, abuse and neglect our dogs and many other pets endure.
