Dog Name: Roshi
Breed: Husky mix
Sex: Female
Age: Around 8
Weight: 54 pounds
Medical Needs: Roshi recently had surgery to remove a mass on her shoulder which turned out to be a sarcoma. They were able to remove it all and her chest x-ray showed no spread. This cancer only has a low chance of reoccurrence.
Housebroken: Yes. The only times she had accidents was when it rained and right after her surgery. She doesn't like staying out in the yard by herself and will do her business real quick and then come right back to the door.
Crate trained: No. Roshi is not a fan of crates and ended up hurting herself. We gate off a section of our hallway where she stays when we're not home and over night. She's never jumped the gate but howls for a few minutes when you leave (beware, she sounds pitiful). This means she’s not suited to apartment life.
Good in the car: Yes, lays down
Good on a leash: Yes. She's not a puller. She likes to take her time and sniff everything. I don't think she'd enjoy fast paced walks.
Energy level: Medium/Low
Need a fenced in yard: No
Dog Friendly: She does best with calm, submissive dogs. She's fine meeting various dogs in public and enjoys pack walks, but tends to guard toys, food and her sleeping area from other dogs. She’s very clear in her body language. If another dog respects her signals and backs off when she asks for space, she relaxes and is able to coexist. We always feed her separate.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, she'd be perfectly happy as an only dog.
Cat Friendly: She lived with a cat. The cat was very skittish and we didn't personally see any of their interactions. We saw her around a couple of stray cats and she didn't seem to care. We can do another cat test if needed.
Kid Friendly: No little kids
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 13+. She's currently fostered with teenagers and does well. I think young kids/grabby hands would overwhelm her. She can be head shy with new people and is not a dog that wants to be smothered and hugged, unless she chooses you as her person.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Roshi finds herself back at Grass Roots after 5 years because her owner unexpectedly passed away. She has always been the nervous type, but with a little time and patience her playful side will come out. She loves to play ball by herself or with you. She doesn't chase after it, but if you roll it to her she will toss it back to you. She also loves her stuffed animals and will collect them and bring them to her spot. Her foster mom works from home and Roshi's been a pretty quiet co-worker. She’s very loyal and usually chooses one person to be her anchor. Once you’re her person, she’ll be devoted, affectionate, and so easy to love.
