Meet Romy! This little terrier lady has the sweetest soul and a surprising amount of spunk.
This tiny girl was abandoned on a night so cold it felt like the world was holding its breath. Someone left her in a cat carrier at the shelter door ~ an old dog sealed into a small plastic box as the temperature dropped and the wind pressed in. Her name is Romy, and she hates the cold down to her bones, but was left to face it alone.
Somehow she survived the night, but she certainly carries it with her. She’s a terrier with a soft heart and the kind of strength that only comes from living through what should have broken her. She moves with quiet intention: a small spark of play here, a gentle step toward safety there, then a slow settling into her bed as if finally allowing the weight to fall from her shoulders.
Romy is the perfect mix of playful and laid-back: she's happy to enjoy a little fun, then curl up in her bed or snooze near her favorite person. She gets along well with other animals, slipping easily into their rhythm. She coexists with cats without hesitation, and around dogs she maintains a simple, calm boundary ~ if they press too close, she gives a warning and asks for space. It isn’t harsh. It’s survival learned over years.
Romy is housetrained and pad-trained as well. She’s a doll… reliable, thoughtful, doing everything she can to be easy to care for. Romy is good with children but needs a home with older, dog-savvy kids (12+) who understand that sleep should not be disturbed and that her body is her own. She cannot be picked up suddenly or startled awake; she responds with fear, not malice. Adults navigate this easily, but younger children often cannot.
Medically, Romy has a heart murmur managed with Vetmedin. She will need continued cardiac care and may also require a dental procedure if her vet feels it’s safe. Romy makes it clear every day that she's feeling great and enjoying life to the fullest.
If you have the space for a dog who asks for very little and deserves so much more than she has been given, Romy is waiting!
Romy is approximately 12 years old and 8 lbs.
