Beautiful Llana was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control back in November 2025 when she was found living outside on her own. She had clearly not been well cared for. She had heartworm, demodex mange, and other signs that she had not had an easy life so far. We met her at Chicago Animal Care and Control and instantly all fell in love with her. Despite a hard life, everything about Llana felt soft. We were so happy to bring her to Heartland to provide the care and love she so deserves.
Llana spent some time at our shelter, where we got to know her better. She looks at the staff and volunteers with the most caring eyes, she greets visitors to her kennel with a happy wiggle, and she has absolutely delicious wrinkles on her sweet face. She can be a bit timid when meeting new people, but usually relaxes after a few moments. Llana quickly stole the heart of a foster mom who happened to have space open for a new foster. She is doing phenomenal in her foster home, and “brings generally calm and happy energy to the home,” according to her foster mom. She is low-key and quiet in a home.
Llana is house-broken and crate-trained, which is her safe place that she loves! She spends time in her crate even when it is open, where she likes to nest in her soft bed with her stuffies.
Llana lived in a short term foster home with another dog(male) and prefers to socialize with male dogs only. At the shelter, she was best friends with Waddles! It's funny to watch her paw him to try to get him to play.
Her true love, though, is for time spent with people. She truly is a "people" dog, and prefers to be close to those she loves. She is perfectly happy and content being the only pet in the home.
Her foster mom says, “She is always attentive to where I am and often will come over for a bit of attention and then go on her way. She loves to cuddle and is pleasantly soft to cuddle with. When not laying next to me (and even sometimes when she is) she can be found chewing on or just holding her stuffed octopus in her mouth. Outside Llana acts like a hound or pointer as is ever focused on the squirrels and bunnies. She will stop and "point" at any squirrel or bunny. At night she often sleeps in her crate/ bed which is in bedroom. She is allowed on the human bed but can be a bit of a bed-hog so would often go back to her own space during night. However with the use of a blanket and pillow she has learned her space on the bed and has slept on bed a couple nights.
She seems very eager to please and is very responsive to verbal praise and encouragement especially when a quick pet of her head is included. When called she will come and sit and look at me to find out what's next - whether it's a walk or food or just some cuddling.”
If you’re someone who believes that the most beautiful souls are often the ones who’ve been through the most, Llana might be the girl you’ve been waiting for.
Llana's adoption fee is $300.00 This animal is spayed and up to date on core vaccines.
Llana is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment with us. Heartland will cover the cost of treatment until he is Heartworm negative.
Heartworm is not contagious to other dogs or people; it is a mosquito-borne disease. It is both preventable and curable! Once cured, there are no long term health effects associated with having Heartworm.
Llana has had 1 heartworm injection, and will receive two more to treat her Heartworm, all to take place at our shelter with our veterinarian. Dates for injections are 02/10/26, and 02/11/26.
That will complete the treatment, but she will need a quick retest at the adopter's vet 9 months post-treatment to make sure that she is Heartworm-free.
