Marsh & Coral are not currently up for adoption at our shelter - instead we are helping their owner, Dawn, by listing them as Courtesy Listings in hopes we can help find someone that will welcome this duo in to their home! Please read their bio below as further details have been provided by their current owner.

'Marsh and Corals story begins on Nov 25, 2025 on a gravel road on a cold Nov day .. Outside of Conesville, IA , down from our farm .. by the Marsh area .. That’s how this 1 year old beautiful Red Heeler Mix got his name Marsh and his side kick  .. Who we named Coral after a Coral fossil that was found in our area .. Coral is also 1 year old and is a Tan Heeler mix .. she’s all legs and full of energy and love  .. Marsh loves to give hugs and snuggles and loves to herd Coral when he gets the chance .. he’s very protective over Coral but loves to steal her food … Marsh is a sweet heart and loves attention and doesn't mind pushing Coral away from me to get the attention first .. Marsh has a 1/3 blue right eye that’s very beautiful even though he likes to be above Coral the boss, he’s very, very much protected and loves her very much.. Marsh and Coral are both housebroken. Marsh and Coral both just had their shots and spay/neuter surgeries on Dec 23 ,2025 .. and are still healing but both doing great .. we have both dogs in our home and both dogs have not had an issue with going in the home.. And they both love children and listen really well and do well on a leash … I’m not sure if they are siblings but with both heeler mix and both a year old confirmed by the vet that did their surgeries I think there’s a possibility, they could be siblings .. Even though we found them on Nov 25 we were not able to get them to the farm until Nov 28 due to them being scared and wanting to stay in that location .. a few times we couldn’t find them .. we searched for them on the four wheeler, hoping to find them before the snowstorm came in with no luck .. the night  before the snow storm hit I came back into the same location again by this time they were ready to follow us at the three days on their own in the cold .. I got out of my vehicle when I walked with the dogs up the hill and the barking in the cold as my husband drove ahead of us slowly because we could not convince Marsh  to get in the vehicle ..where Coral wanted in the truck .. he’s a thinker and she just does it .. both dogs were hungry and underweight .. Coral being the worst shape .. Marsh had a collar strapped around his chest and leg .. We love both of these beautiful dogs. And it’s been a pleasure having them with us on the farm and watching them thrive …as much a we love them ..we cant keep them, due to our own 2 dogs ..  now hoping that they will get a forever home. They both have been through a lot together. We are hoping for a Christmas miracle for these two beautiful babies.'

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

It is the policy of Safe Haven of Iowa County that all animals adopted from our facility will be spayed or neutered upon adoption, or the adopter will sign a spay/neuter agreement and follow up with veterinary records once the operation has been complete for puppies and kittens. We firmly believe that controlling the animal population is the only way to reduce the population of animals in rescue facilities such as ours and those shelters that do destroy animals for no reason other than overpopulation.

It is our policy that adoptions are conducted a minimum of 24 hours after your initial visit with the animal and submission of the adoption application. This allows us time to call your references, perform home inspection as well as giving you the opportunity to sleep on your decision and make sure it is what you really want.

Compare the adoption fees below with the routine animal health care and spay / neuter costs you would have to pay. Without the generous help of the local veterinarians we would never be able to include such services at this fee.

We have the right to refuse ANY adoption for ANY reason.

Dogs & Puppies: Adoption fees include spaying or neutering (if under 4 months a voucher is provided for surgery at one of our participating veterinarians), heartworm test, distemper, rabies, worming, ear cleaning, flea control if needed.

Fee: $200.00

Cats & Kittens: Adoption fees include spaying or neutering (if under 4 months a voucher is provided for surgery at one of our participating veterinarians), FeLv and FIV testing, distemper, rabies and worming, ear cleaning, and flea control if needed.

Fee: $50.00

All puppies and kittens adopted without spay/neuter completed will have a contract stating the animals will be altered by the time it is 6 months old. Follow up calls will be made to confirm completion of surgery.

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Safe Haven of Iowa County is a rescue organization whose mission is to rescue, protect, spay/neuter and find good homes for stray animals in Iowa County, Iowa. We strive to offer the best in traditional veterinary care with relationships built with local veternarians and, whenever possible, holistic health care for sick and injured animals in our care.
While sheltering homeless pets is vitally important, Safe Haven of Iowa County also understands that pet shelters are not a solution to the nations overpopulation problem. It is essential that we:

-Teach respect for living things

-Reinforce the bond between humans and animals

-advocate for and help provide assistance to large scale spay and nuetering programs

-Teach and model responsible pet ownership

These are all things that will help us in our effort to stop the needless killing of cats and dogs in our shelters and pounds.

We ask that our community understand that while we pamper and care for our pets they are all still missing the most important thing in their life...a loving home and family of thier own.
