Gibbous came to ACC as a stray after she was found tied up near W 101st St and Amsterdam Ave. She arrived a bit worried (ears down, tail partly tucked) but quickly showed she's a gentle, polite girl who wants to be close to her person. In the shelter, she warms up with a little time-then leans in for pets, takes treats nicely, and happily follows you along for a walk.
My Ideal Home
Gibbous would love a calm, patient home that will let her settle in at her own pace. She's the kind of dog who appreciates a slow hello and then becomes a loyal shadow once she feels safe. A predictable routine, gentle introductions to new people and places, and positive-reinforcement training will help her build confidence and thrive.
Good with Kids?
No young children (under 5). Gibbous can be a bit hesitant at first and does best when she can choose when to engage. She may be open to older, respectful kids after a meet-and-greet.
Good with Other Pets?
On walks, Gibbous has shown neutral, non-reactive behavior around other dogs-she may briefly look but is easy to redirect. With slow, thoughtful introductions, she may be able to live with another calm dog.
Leash Manners
Gibbous walks with mild to moderate pulling and is generally easy to handle. She knows "sit," takes treats gently, and can get a little bouncy in a friendly way with her handler.
Overall Health
Healthy overall. She has a lean, whippet-like build and mild dental tartar noted near the gumline.
Behavior Determination
Level 2 - Gibbous can be initially slow to warm up and benefits from a calm approach, choice-based handling, and time to decompress.
Other Fun Facts
Once she trusts you, Gibbous becomes an affectionate little velcro dog-leaning in for pets and happily sticking close. If you're looking for a sweet, gentle companion who just needs a soft landing, she might be your girl.
