Herman #2 | 9-year-old Chihuahua Mix | Squeaky toy enthusiast
Herman is a sweet, petite Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and a big love for squeaky toys. At just 10 pounds, he’s a low-to-medium energy companion who enjoys leisurely walks, cozy couch time, and proudly carrying his favorite squeaky toys around the house. He is almost fully house-trained and does best with regular potty breaks and supervision, and he is comfortably crated when his foster is away.
Herman walks nicely on leash and enjoys getting outside, but he does have some separation anxiety and can be vocal when left alone or crated. While he isn’t destructive, he would be happiest in a home with another dog for companionship and people who are home more often than not. Because of his tendency to bark when left alone, an apartment setting would not be ideal for him.
He does well with small dogs and has shown positive interactions with cats, mostly ignoring them with occasional, easily redirected barking. Herman hasn’t been around children yet and can be shy and nervous in new situations, but he responds well to gentle structure and boundaries.
Herman is motivated by food, toys, and affection, and while he’s still learning basic commands, he’s eager to please. He would thrive in a home with a yard, another dog, and a calm routine where he can feel secure.
Herman has a heart murmur and is currently healing from a broken toe. He was adopted from the Aurora Animal Shelter and returned after a week when his previous family realized they were gone long hours and living in an apartment. With the right environment, Herman will make a loyal, loving companion who just wants to feel safe and included.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.
The adoption fee for this pet is $100. Our adoption fee covers the following:
Spay/neuter
Microchip
DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.
Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process!
Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.
PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/
Our adoption process is:
1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet.
2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
