History: 🧡 From Texas to Midwest 🤠—- A group of deserving dogs was recently welcomed as part of our Texas Transport Program! A program launched to make an impactful difference for our partner shelters in Texas facing the overpopulation of animals with limited resources and low adoption rates. We are excited to help these southern gems find loving forever homes to call their own!
Napoleon has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and early onset arthritis. The ball part of his hip joints are sitting outside of their sockets. This is a congenital issue, meaning he was born with it, and it is already causing some early arthritic changes. He has muscle loss over his hips, stiffness, and some pain, particularly when extending his left hind leg.
Potential long-term surgical options include total hip replacement or another procedure to remove the ball part of the joint (femoral head ostectomy). For now, the best approach is to focus on non-surgical management. While in rescue, he has been working with a specialist to build up the muscles around his hips to provide better support, which will help keep him comfortable and functional. This will also lead to a better outcome if he does need surgery in the future.
