My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I’m Rupert — an 8-year-old Cattle Dog mix with a big heart, a worried mind, and a whole lot of love saved up for the right person. I’ll be honest with you: I am an anxious fellow. New people? New dogs? Strange noises at the door? I tend to greet all of those things with my “alert barking program.” It’s a reflex, really — I’m not trying to be rude. The good news is that once I have a moment to assess the situation, I’m actually friendly and warm up just fine. And when I finally decide you’re safe? I will stick to you like Velcro. I’m a loyal, gentle boy who really wants to feel secure again. At the shelter, I was pretty disconnected at first — lots of change, lots of confusion. But when someone crouches down and gives me a quiet moment, I come over for pets. I want connection, comfort, and reassurance more than anything. I may take time to settle in, and I am hoping for a home where my people are there often for me. I am a senior and was so used to the same person my whole life, so it`s possible I`ll be out of sorts and a bit anxious if I feel alone again. I`m hoping you have the time to work on this with me, and lots and lots of love to give. I really just need someone who understands that a good dog can feel a little lost after life turns upside down. Give me patience, stability, and kindness, and I’ll give you loyalty, love, and a soft, grateful heart. If you’ve been looking for a sensitive companion who will adore you deeply once he trusts you… maybe I’m your guy. I am a special paws adoption, which means I do have medical needs that need tending to. I have arthritis and some limping, as well as skin allergies and would likely require medication for both of these long term. But because of this, my adoption fee is totally up to you ($30 admin fee still applies)!
