My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Monticello
Age: 1.5 years
Looking for: A lap to call home

Hi, I am Monticello, a playful fellow with undeniable charm. I am the kind of guy who walks into a room like he owns it, then immediately curls up in your lap like that was the plan all along.

I love affection, the more the better. Pet me, admire me, tell me I am handsome…I will accept all of it graciously.

I also love my independence, which means I will quietly hide away for a few hours to ponder life’s mysteries. Don’t worry about me, though, I am watching, waiting, and planning to jump in your lap. Or maybe play with a toy. I let fate decide.

Sometimes I will flee the room when you enter. Don’t take it personal; it is how I survived before coming to the shelter. It will only be a few minutes before I return to accept your love and affection.

Perfect date night includes sitting together quietly, me purring like an engine, you wondering how you ever lived without a cat on your lap. If you are looking for a confident companion with a sweet side and excellent snuggling skills, I might just be your match.

Go meet their pets

Our shelter is in north Fargo, near the old Yunker's Children's Museum, located just off of University Dr. on 28th Ave. N. We have open house hours from 4-7pm Tuesday-Friday, and 2-6pm on Saturdays. We have adoption events throughout the year, and you can find more information about those on our website at www.homewardonline.org or our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/HomewardAnimalShelter.

More about this shelter

We are a small shelter that rescues pets from local impounds whose time is up, and would otherwise be euthanized. We only have 9 dog kennels and 26 cat kennels; as many of 80% of the animals in our care are located in foster homes throughout the community at any time. We are very limited on space within our shelter and often, we can't take in owner surrenders, but will do our best to help give guidance about rehoming pets.

We offer several services besides adoption, including microchip clinics and pet-friendly rental housing listings.

We are the only shelter in the FM area that rescues both cats and dogs, so without our help, hundreds of dogs and cats would be euthanized each year in local pounds.
