Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mama Smurf is a sweet, resilient soul who needs a quiet, loving foster/adoptive/rescue home while she continues to recover from canine distemper virus. Mame Smurf came in with her puppies after her owners could no longer care for them. PACC tested them for and unfortunately, they are positive for distemper virus. Living in a shelter with distemper virus is very hard on their immune system due to the stressful environment. Smurf’s puppies have all found placement, now its time that we find her a home to continue her recovery in. At this time, Smurf doesn’t show any symptoms. Smurf has been very friendly and playful with people! Distemper virus comes from the community and is easily contracted in underage or under vaccinated pets. Please remember to vaccinate and booster your pets with the core canine vaccines. Adult, fully vaccinated dogs are immune to this virus and safe to have Smurf around. She has done well with dogs in her previous home and with proper intros likely to continue doing so in your home.
We know from her time in foster home that: `. She has been with me for a week and she is just a fantastic pup. She had a little cough and some congestion when she first arrived and kept dry heaving. All of that is now gone and she is really doing great. She eats well, she sleeps well, and she is fully house trained. We are working on some commands now and she is slowly getting them--being highly food motivated helps! Also working on leash stuff in the backyard since she can`t yet go on walks. She is very nervous around the leash but getting better. She is extremely playful—absolutely loves playing fetch and could do that for long periods. In the evening, she is very happy to snuggle on the couch and just hang out. All in all, she is just great.`
Consider Pre-adopting her today! email pacc.medicalfoster@pima.gov with any questions.
