My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We were contacted by our wonderful partners at Pet Country Market Beamsville after hearing about Oscar’s story, and we couldn’t turn away.

A long-time customer shared her concerns after spotting Oscar several times near her cottage in Campbellford, ON. Oscar had been purchased as a puppy by a young neighbour but sadly spent his nights chained outside, with no doghouse, bed, or toys. During the day, he was left to roam freely and has even been spotted walking on thin ice. With bears, coyotes, and winter approaching, her heart broke every time this sweet boy would come over just to say “hi” and get some attention when he realized there was someone nearby. Determined to help, she gently approached Oscar’s owner and asked if he would surrender him, so someone could find him the loving home he truly deserves. Thanks to her compassion, Oscar is now safe! 🙏

Oscar is a 9-month-old Maremma Sheepdog mix, neutered & up to date on vaccines, heartworm & tick fever negative. He’s very gentle, kid-friendly and house trained. He’s also good on walks, good recall and knows basic commands. Because of his rough start and having to look after himself outdoors, Oscar is not a fan of cats. He’s done well with the three dogs in his foster home, though he can be a bit selective with other dogs — just like many pups learning how to socialize.

Oscar already found his first angel who rescued him from a dangerous situation. Now he’s waiting for his second miracle: a forever family who will give him a warm bed, toys, safety, and the unconditional love he’s always deserved.

Could Oscar be the missing piece in your family?

Go meet their pets

We are a foster based rescue, but we can schedule visits with the animals when possible. We also participate in meet & greet events.

More about this rescue

Bruno Project Canada is a non-profit organization that helps injured and stray potcakes in St. Lucia and homeless dogs in Ontario.

Our primary focus is fundraising for spay/neuter clinics to help control the dog and cat population in St. Lucia. We also raise funds to provide parasite prevention, medical treatments, supplies, equipment, and food for the stray and shelter feeding programs, as well as for special projects.

We work closely with the volunteers at Bruno Project St. Lucia, and the St. Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS) to support them in their heroic efforts to ease the suffering of cats and dogs in St. Lucia and find adoptive homes for dogs in Canada.

When possible, we also take in unwanted dogs in Ontario, provide them with needed care and fosters, and seek homes for them locally.
