Bean came to the shelter through an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him. He arrived very matted but has since been groomed and is feeling much more comfortable. Bean is a sensitive, affectionate dog who can be shy at first but warms up quickly and enjoys being close to his people. He prefers attention on his own terms and shows a sweet, gentle side once he feels safe.
My Ideal Home
Bean would do best in a patient, understanding home with adopters who have experience with anxious or sensitive dogs. A calm environment, predictable routine, and positive reinforcement training will help him thrive. He'll benefit from support with confidence-building, gentle handling, and learning to feel more comfortable when left alone. A home that can continue working on basic manners and impulse control would be ideal.
Good with Kids?
No young children. Bean is recommended for a home without kids under 5, as he can be anxious and prefers calm, respectful interactions. Older children who understand dog boundaries may be considered.
Good with Other Pets?
Bean previously lived with another dog and was reported to be friendly and playful with familiar dogs. He has limited experience with unfamiliar dogs, so slow introductions are important. There is no known history with cats.
Leash Manners
Bean can walk on leash with mild pulling and may show some excitement when leaving his kennel. He is still learning and would benefit from continued leash training and confidence-building in new environments.
Overall Health
Arrived severely matted but now comfortable.
Behavior Determination
Level 2. Bean has some manageable challenges, including anxiety, resource guarding, and basic manners, and will do best with adopters committed to positive training and patience.
Other Fun Facts
Bean loves squeaky toys, enjoys car rides, and likes to stay close to his people. He can be playful, vocal, and affectionate, often leaning into touch once he trusts you. With time, structure, and kindness, Bean has the potential to be a devoted little companion.
