Meet Bucket, a 10–12 month old, 15 lb Terrier mix who was rescued from the shelter and somehow arrived already knowing how to be the world’s most polite houseguest. Bucket is the kind of dog people fall in love with almost immediately— calm, gentle, affectionate, and remarkably well behaved.

Bucket starts his day as the ultimate couch companion. While his foster eats breakfast and watches TV, Bucket happily curls up beside them on the couch, soaking in the calm start to the morning. Once breakfast is over, Bucket knows exactly what comes next and hops down, ready for a quick potty walk where he reliably takes care of both #1 and #2. Back home, he drinks water and enjoys his own breakfast from his bowl. If his foster is home in the afternoon, Bucket is always happy to go out for a bonus potty walk. Otherwise, he’s perfectly content lounging in the living room— preferably on the couch, which is clearly one of his favorite places. In the evening, he enjoys a longer walk to stretch his legs and do his business again, then settles in for the night either on his bed or back on the couch.

When Bucket first arrived, he was understandably a little nervous, but that didn’t last long. He opened up quickly and showed just how special he is. Now, he is confident, affectionate, and incredibly tuned in to the people around him. Bucket is a true cuddler and snuggler, with what can only be described as excellent emotional intelligence. He seems to know exactly when to stick close for affection and when to relax on his own nearby. He is not clingy, but he loves connection and will happily curl up next to you, place a paw gently on your knee, or quietly keep you company.

Everyone who meets Bucket comments on how well behaved he is. He does not bark, snap, chew, dig, or cause trouble. He listens attentively, responds beautifully to guidance, and has an easy, gentle presence that makes him a joy to have around. He is extremely well housetrained and does not require a crate, as he behaves perfectly when left alone. He does not use potty pads or a doggy door and has shown excellent bathroom manners from the start. He is already learning tricks and will happily come over and sit perfectly when asked.

On leash, Bucket is an absolute dream. He walks calmly with no pulling or tugging and is attentive to whoever is holding the leash. He may pause briefly to observe squirrels, but he does not chase or bark. He is unfazed by other dogs and remains calm and polite on walks.

Bucket does wonderfully with other dogs off-leash and tends to stay calm and social even when other dogs are less polite. He has also interacted with small children and has been perfectly behaved around them— gentle, respectful, and relaxed.

While Bucket enjoys walks and bursts of activity, he is overall very low maintenance. He is playful and energetic when outside, but at home he is happiest lounging, cuddling, and being near his person. He does not require a lot of exercise beyond regular potty walks and enjoys a peaceful routine.

What truly sets Bucket apart are his charming little quirks. He can stand up on his hind legs and walk like a tiny human, something that never fails to impress. He perks his ears up dramatically, Bolt-style, and gets genuinely excited for car rides, where he behaves beautifully— choosing a seat and sitting calmly the entire time. He does great in social environments and has accompanied his foster to work, social outings, and public places, where he wins over everyone he meets. He is also a fan of pup cups and clearly appreciates the finer things in life.

Bucket adores belly rubs and will happily roll onto his back until you comply. His favorite version is belly rubs delivered with feet, which he finds especially delightful. He loves being carried, putting on little performances by standing on his back legs, smiling widely, and soaking up attention. He’s affectionate without being overwhelming, gentle without being timid, and incredibly easy to love.

Bucket would do well in just about any home that appreciates a calm, loving, well-mannered companion—and ideally one with a couch he can claim as his own.
