Hamburglar is a 2–3 year old, 13 lb Maltipoo who came to us from the shelter and has quickly shown what a gentle, affectionate little soul he is. From the moment he settled into his foster home, it became clear that Hamburglar’s greatest joy is simply being close to his person.
His days follow a calm, predictable routine that suits him perfectly. He starts the morning with a nice 20-minute walk around 8:00 am, followed by breakfast at 8:30. During the day, Hamburglar is happiest staying near his foster, quietly following from room to room and settling in for long, peaceful naps wherever his person happens to be. In the late afternoon, around 5:00 pm, he enjoys another walk of about 20 minutes, and then has dinner at 6:00 pm. He’s not demanding or busy — just content to be nearby, watching life happen and snoozing in between.
When Hamburglar first arrived, he was understandably a bit nervous, slowly walking around the house and taking everything in. That nervousness faded quickly, revealing an incredibly calm, friendly, and deeply affectionate dog. He is a true cuddlebug. If you make eye contact with him — even from across the room — his tail starts wagging. The moment you touch him, he happily rolls over, spreads his legs, and offers his belly for rubs. He absolutely loves being cuddled and will even let you hold him like a human baby, which he seems to find very comforting. He is very much a “velcro” dog who prefers to sit next to you, lean into you, or curl up nearby rather than entertain himself with toys.
Hamburglar is more of a couch companion than a playful pup. He isn’t very interested in games and doesn’t need constant activity. His ideal afternoon involves sitting beside you and eventually drifting off to sleep. That said, he does enjoy walks and has nice stamina — he can easily walk for an hour if you’d like. On leash, he is polite and easygoing. He doesn’t pull much, doesn’t bark at or chase other dogs, and generally takes in the world calmly, even if he zigzags a bit instead of walking in a perfectly straight line.
In his foster home, Hamburglar lives with another small dog. They coexist peacefully without playing much, but there is no tension or conflict. He has also been around children and is described as super friendly with them, making him a lovely option for a home with gentle kids.
Hamburglar is very quiet and well-mannered indoors. He does not bark — even when people come over or walk past the house. He doesn’t chew out of boredom, doesn’t dig, and overall has very easy house manners. The one area he will need continued support with is housetraining. He is not fully housetrained yet, though his foster has noticed promising signs of progress.
Hamburglar’s ideal home is one that values companionship over perfection. He is truly a wonderful, sweet, and easygoing little dog whose biggest ask is love and understanding as he continues to work on his potty training. For someone who wants a calm, affectionate shadow who will happily cuddle, quietly follow along, and make every day feel a little softer, Hamburglar is an absolute gem.
His foster’s favorite thing about him is simply how sweet and easy he is — a gentle, loving presence who asks for very little and gives so much in return.
