Meet Brewer! Brewer currently lives in a foster home where he`s working on perfecting his manners and learning the art of living in a stable home environment. He’s not a beginner dog or a good fit for a busy, high-energy household, but for the right experienced person, he has the potential to be a truly special companion. His ideal home is one without children and one without more than one calmer dog at home already. In the right setting, Brewer has so much to offer.
When Brewer first arrived, he struggled with reactivity and needed a lot of support to feel safe and settled. With time, consistency, and patience, he’s made meaningful progress and is much more comfortable navigating his world. He does best with calm, clear guidance and thrives with positive reinforcement—especially when snacks are involved. Food motivation goes a long way with Brewer and helps him stay relaxed and engaged.
Brewer can be protective of certain items, but this has improved significantly with management and gentle exchanges. He tends to vocalize at other dogs, particularly when barriers are involved, but he’s quiet with people and everyday household sounds. Dog interactions need to be thoughtfully managed, and while he may coexist with a very calm, respectful dog, it may be best for him to be the only dog where he can feel most at ease. He does well with cats and shows curiosity towards them.
New people should be introduced slowly, allowing Brewer to observe and approach at his own pace. Ignoring him at first and offering treats helps him build trust. He communicates clearly through his body language when he’s feeling unsure, giving an attentive handler plenty of guidance.
Brewer walks nicely on leash, and is a smart dog who enjoys learning—especially when it aligns with his interests of getting treats. In a calm environment, he is affectionate, sweet, and surprisingly funny. He forms strong bonds and does best in a quiet home with someone who appreciates a dog that needs understanding and consistency.
