My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spice & spunk that is what Miss Nessie is made of! This fun and active girl is about 1.5 years old. She is a girl that loves and needs to work. Her work can look many different ways! Agility, obedience, herding, running companion, hiking buddy, fly ball ruler- her options and your opportunities are endless!

Nessie is great in the house and a champion at crate time. She is incredibly smart and devoted to her people and any activity they take her along to! The opposite side of a fantastically active, fun dog - is that they rarely have an off switch and you are rarely afforded an off day! But they are worth it! Worth cold, wet walks. Worth late night summer runs. Worth the extra time and effort.

Nessie has done a fantastic job while in rescue of figuring out how to socialize and tolerate other dogs. She’s learned how to appropriately initiate play! That getting told ‘no’ by other dogs is part of life. And that too much attitude and friends don’t want to be around you. She still has work to do in her dog to dog relationships but she has made HUGE strides. She gets that the people are here to help and maintain order- we don’t need her assistance ?? It a beautiful place when they recognize this piece! She looks to her people if she has a concern- no longer wants to handle it on her own.

Nessie needs a home that knows and understands herding/working dogs. She is so much more than an adorable girl with a beautiful coat. She is smart, willing and driven. She deserves a home that recognizes her awesomeness and encourages her.

Nessie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations. She has also tested negative for heartworm disease.
Her adoption fee is $450.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this awesome girl!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Prior to adopting a pet from Prairie’s Edge Humane Society, you will need to personally visit and spend time with the animal at the shelter or foster home. If you have a spouse and children we will also ask that the entire family meet with the animal before the adoption is approved. If you are adopting a dog and currently have a dog, prior to the adoption being approved we will ask you to set up an appointment to bring your current dog to meet the new dog so that we are sure the two dogs will be compatible.

Please be aware that all applications must be approved by our staff. If you rent your home a staff member from Prairie’s Edge Humane Society will need to talk directly to your landlord to verify that pets are allowed at the property you rent. Please bring your landlords current phone number with you. If you rent your home our staff cannot approve the adoption until your landlord has been reached.

Certain animals may require a manager approval for adoption so you may or may not be able to take the animal home with you on the same day, however we are able to place a “hold” on the animal for 24 hours for a nominal fee which is applied towards the adoption fee, preventing the animal from being adopted by anyone else should this be required. If you do not return in 24 hours to claim the animal however the fee is non-refundable.

If you are adopting a cat, please come prepared with a kennel/carrier for safe transport from the shelter to your home. No cat will be allowed to leave without being secured in a kennel/carrier. This is also true for other small furries, such as rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, birds, etc.

All dogs are currently housed in foster homes. Once you have decided on a dog you might like to meet or if you have questions about a specific dog, please contact the shelter at 507-664-1035 and we will put you in contact with the foster family to make arrangements for meeting the dog or to answer questions in regards to the dog. If you decide to adopt the dog, you will be required to come to the shelter to finalize the adoption.

All dogs will be required to either be on a leash or in a kennel/carrier for transport from the shelter/foster home to your home. If you do not bring one with you, we do sell a variety of inexpensive collars, leashes, easy walk harnesses and gentle leaders in our retail area.

Since all animals have individual needs all adoptions are handled on a case by case situation depending on the animal you are adopting.
