My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Heavy V is as close to perfect as you can get! He’s a handsome mini panther and gentle giant at 16lbs. After a life on the streets, all this boy wants is to play, eat and get some love from his humans. While he’s not a lap cat (yet?) or overly cuddly, he does want to be right next to you wherever you are and loves getting pets. His absolute favorite kind are belly rubs - especially when he’s asleep in his usual position with all four legs in the air!

Heavy is just the right amount of energy and playfulness - not too little and not too crazy. He usually plays for a bit in the morning and longer in the evenings. During the day he loves to lounge, nap and look out a window from a high perch. He’s obsessed with his little mouse and catnip-stuffed toys, and can chase them around the home all night long if you’re willing! He also loves watching the birds on ‘Cat TV’ and can sit there for hours until he’s unavoidably cut off.

He’s pretty calm and unruffled by most things, whether loud noises, guests or other kinds of surprises. He was snuggling with his foster on the very first night! One thing his foster appreciates the most is that he’s one of the rare few cats that will let you sleep in before demanding attention in the mornings… This big teddy bear has not bitten or scratched intentionally and hasn’t shown a mean bone in his body to date.

Heavy will make an incredible pet for anyone!

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
