My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Akane
For those Japanese Anime fans, I am named after the heroine of the story. Akane means “deep red”; although my coat is not red, it is white, black, and orange, in other words, a calico. I am only 2 years old and was brought to the HSHC as a stray cat on November 10. My complete medical examination revealed a live tick behind my left ear, which was removed! The medical staff noted that I had an upper respiratory infection that has been treated, and that I am a friendly, outgoing girl, not yet spayed but litter-box trained. The interviewer lady (IL) and other volunteers report that I am a genuine sweetheart of a cat. I live in a condo and am always trying to get the attention of anyone passing by! I love socializing with folks and crave chin rubs and ear scratches. Everyone says I am a certified peach-of-a-cat and would make anyone happy. The only thing that might prevent me from being adopted immediately is that I have a heart murmur. This means I will need regular veterinary check-ups to stay healthy. I am so excited by the thought of being someone’s bestie! Here’s your chance to have a genuine Calico cat! Come on in and ask for Akane! 1-12-26

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
