My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pomegranate is a girl who has probably not known many nice things in life before she came to CMHS. She was found as a stray at a rural property north of Columbia, thin, scared and untrusting of people. But you wouldn’t recognize that dog if you met Miss Pom Pom today. This gentle soul longs for connection with people, and she has bravely embraced her new life in her foster home. Pomegranate adores head scratches, food of all kinds, and curling up close to her person. She is a perfect medium size, seems to be reliably house trained and is perfecting the art of the leash.

Pom Pom has done well with the other animals she has met so far. But because of her shy nature, she seems to do better with other dogs who match her calm energy and give her space to adjust. She doesn’t have a lot of confidence and will need a family who can help her feel secure in her place in the home. She has met cats and has shown curiosity about them, and could probably live well with a confident cat. Pom also seems to like children, although we would absolutely recommend that a quieter, non-chaotic home with plenty of dog/child supervision would be a better match for her at this point.

You can tell pomegranate is a special dog as soon as you meet her. Her huge brown eyes and intense gaze will draw you in, and the way she snuffles your ear and pokes her dainty nose in your hands to look for more treats will melt your heart. All Pom Pom needs is the right person to come along and help her blossom into the confident dog we know she can be. Please submit an application today and ask to meet her!

More about this shelter

Welcome to CMHS! In continuous operation since 1943, the Central Missouri Humane Society promotes the well-being of companion animals – pets that enrich the lives of the people who love them.

The Columbia Humane Society was formed in 1943 to provide shelter and care for Columbia’s abandoned animals. Originating in a little structure on Creasy Springs Road, the organization has grown into today’s Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare agency caring for thousands of animals annually and providing veterinary services for low-income pet owners.
