My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Journey is a sassy, smart and spirited Husky mix who’s still learning to trust the world around him. He’s got that classic Husky attitude - vocal, opinionated and a little mouthy - but underneath it all, he’s a sweet guy who just needs the right person to help him feel safe and loved.

Journey came to us from a hoarding situation, so he`s still figuring out how to interact with people, and we haven`t had a chance to test his interactions with other dogs quite yet. We believe a slow introduction to all household members, furry and human, would be best for him. He is still pretty nervous of fast movements and loud noises so older children or no children in his future home, may be where he feels most comfortable. Because Journey is very vocal, a home without shared walls would be the best fit for him. He would still need to learn trust when being leashed, so he would also do best in a home with a fenced in yard. He is incredibly smart and treat-motivated, so treats are a fast way to his heart. After he trusts you, proper training won`t be too difficult. We aren`t quite sure if he is house trained, but he does keep his kennel clean!

If you are interested in making him apart of your family, you can come and meet him in one of our playrooms or fill out an application online.

Information on Journey may change as we get to know him better.

More about this rescue

AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport, Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit animal welfare organization based in Adel, Iowa. In addition to caring for our local strays, we are working to bridge the gap between traditional animal shelters and no-kill rescues in 2 different ways: 1) By providing free transportation for dogs and cats from traditional shelters to no-kill rescues all over the Midwest and Canada. We also provide overnight rest stops for our furry travelers and temporary housing for those whose time has run out at the shelters, but have to wait for a foster spot to open up in one of the rescues; 2) By pulling as many dogs out of traditional shelters that are on death row and placing them in foster homes and forever homes thru our organization.
