My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clifford is a big, happy boy with an even bigger heart, and he’ll greet you with a smile the moment he sees you. He loves to play with ropes and sticks and does especially well with older kids who can match his playful energy. Clifford doesn’t quite realize how big he is — in his mind, he’s still just a baby who wants love, fun, and attention.

His favorite things? Armpit scratches and booty scratches — and don’t worry, he’ll make it very clear which one he’s in the mood for. Clifford is affectionate, goofy, and full of personality.

Because he was taken in as a stray, Clifford can be a bit skittish with new people at first. He’s very protective of his humans, so slow, proper introductions help him understand who’s welcome. Once he knows you’re comfortable with someone, he usually relaxes and settles in.

Clifford may do best as the only dog, not because he’s aggressive — he’s not — but because he tends to be protective and wants to be “in charge” of keeping his person safe. He’s also very alert and will try to protect you from things like lawn mowers, motorcycles, and four-wheelers. Once he understands that you’re safe, he’s typically okay, though it’s best for him to be inside or secured during those activities.

He’s currently kennel trained and does well in one. On the few occasions he’s spent the night indoors, he didn’t tear anything up and had no bathroom accidents — a very good boy. Clifford is strong and would probably make an excellent sled dog! He does pull on the leash, as he’s used to being on a line, but he’s a quick learner and responds well to consistent training.

Clifford is smart and picks up word commands quickly when they’re practiced daily and paired with clear guidance. Most of all, he’s a loving, loyal soul — the kind of dog who will cuddle you when you’re sad, stand guard when you’re scared, and make you laugh without even trying.

And yes… he absolutely loves it when you sing the Clifford the Big Red Dog song to him. 🥰

Clifford is looking for a patient, loving home where he can feel secure, understood, and part of the family — and he’ll give back loyalty, protection, and a whole lot of love.
