My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sheila is the definition of an easy-to-love kitten. This six-month-old medium-haired black and brown tabby is a gentle, affectionate little soul who makes everyone around her feel instantly at home. She’s cuddly without being clingy, playful without being wild, and curious without ever being chaotic the perfect balance of kitten energy and calm companionship.

Sheila is a true purr machine. The second you touch her, she starts rumbling with happiness. She loves following her people from room to room, curling up in your lap while you read, or taking sweet cat naps nearby while you work. She’s wonderfully people-oriented but never demanding just happy just being close, whether that means sitting in your lap or quietly at your feet.

In her foster home, Sheila lives with a 7-year-old child, and the two of them adore each other. She’s gentle, respectful, and never uses claws or teeth when playing, making her a perfect match for families as well as adults. She also gets along beautifully with other cats and is confident and relaxed in new spaces, not easily startled and not overly high-energy.

Sheila truly has no baggage. She’s a happy, free-spirited little “omnivert” (introvert + extrovert). She’s loving and social, but also content to do her own thing. Whether she’s exploring a new room, lounging in a sunbeam, or quietly keeping you company while you work, she brings a calm, loving presence into any space.

She would thrive in just about any home: with kids or without, with other cats or as a solo companion. Sheila is affectionate, easygoing, and full of heart… the kind of kitten who doesn’t just live in your house, but makes it feel like home.

Adoption Process

  • Fill out an adoption interest application HERE.

  • Our goal is finding lifelong, loving homes for our animals, so we try to find the best match between animal and adopter. We can help advise you on which animals to meet based on your situation.

  • You can meet some of our animals at our weekend adoption events, or we can arrange for a meeting in the foster home. If it’s a good match, the foster parent will come to visit your home in person. This is to make sure your home is safe and secure for a new companion animal.

  • Note: IAR makes every effort to please our adopters, but our first concern must be for the animal’s welfare. We reserve the right to deny any application.

More about this rescue

IAR started with one woman's big dreams, a bigger heart, and a very distinctive purple pickup truck that helped her rescue countless of unwanted, abused, and homeless Triangle pets. Originally founded in 1994, IAR earned an official 501(c)(3) status in 1995. We are governed by a Board of Directors, managed by elected officers, and introduced IAR’s first paid position, General Manager, in June 2021. This role will assist with elevating our collective compassion to new heights and strengthening IAR’s impact as a whole.

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.
