Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Gambit ♟️
Gambit is a 10-month-old, 17lb Havanese/Poodle mix who is just beginning to experience life beyond the puppy mill. When he arrived, he was in very poor condition and required extensive grooming, but underneath it all was a gentle, sweet boy who is slowly learning what it means to feel safe and cared for.
Gambit is a bit more low-key and shy than some of the other young dogs in foster care. His hesitancy doesn’t appear to be fear-based, but rather the result of limited socialization after spending most of his life in a crate. He is currently working on building confidence and learning to feel comfortable around people and everyday household routines.
Because Gambit can be unsure and may run when approached, he requires a collar with a drag lead for safety while he continues to adjust. Despite his shyness, he allows his foster to pick him up without issue and handles gentle interaction well. With consistency, patience, and positive experiences, his confidence continues to grow.
Gambit does well with other dogs and coexists nicely with them. He spends time with his puppy mill foster brother and sister and, while he can occasionally seem a bit over their antics, he is generally content and tolerant. While he does not require another dog in the home, he would do fine with a calm canine companion.
Gambit will thrive in a home that understands puppy mill dogs and is willing to let him progress at his own pace. He has all the potential to blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion once he learns that people can be trusted and that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.
Gambit is fostered in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. His adoption fee is $450.00.
To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
