Meet Zanzabar.
A quiet soul caught somewhere between fear and hope.
Zanzabar is an orange boy, about two years old, with eyes that tell a story he hasn’t quite finished yet. He is scared. Not aggressive. Not unreachable. Just cautious. The kind of cat who stands at the edge of trust, leaning forward… then pausing.
Zanzabar is the type of cat who is so often misunderstood. The kind that struggles in shelter settings. The kind that some places simply do not have the time or space to wait for. And that waiting is exactly what he needs.
We don’t know where Zanzabar came from.
Was he born outside, learning early that survival meant staying unseen?
Was he once someone’s kitten, passed along when he didn’t become the cuddly lap cat they expected?
We don’t know.
What we do know is that Zanzabar is trying.
When he thinks no humans are watching, he plays. He bats around a little mouse toy with the focus and joy of a cat who wants to be carefree. He watches people from a distance. Curious. Hopeful. Almost ready to believe.
Saved by Zade does not remove feral cat colonies. But sometimes we end up with cats like Zanzabar. Cats who cannot safely go back to where they came from. Cats who are not yet candidates for a traditional home. Cats who cannot stay with us forever without taking up space another cat desperately needs.
That does not mean they don’t deserve a future.
Zanzabar is neutered. He is vaccinated. He deserves the chance to live a life that feels safe to him. Maybe that’s a barn. A workshop. A quiet property where he can be fed, sheltered, and allowed to exist on his own terms. Or maybe, with time and patience, he surprises us all.
We believe there is a place for cats like Zanzabar in this world.
If you have a barn or appropriate outdoor shelter and would be willing to give a gentle, cautious cat a chance to be your neighbor, please reach out.
