Take the Pet Home
This helps Loved At Last Dog Rescue with pet care costs.
Hi everyone, I am the super-active Soda Pop and here's some information about me:
Age: 5 yrs
Breed: Golden Retreiver
Weight: 110 lbs
Height: 23 inches
Gender: Male
I am a high-energy, affectionate and loyal guy who loves being close to people and receiving lots of activity and attention. My perfect owner will be an active experienced person who can provide multiple daily walks, mental stimulation, and lots of companionship. As I form a strong bond with my people, I don't do well when being left alone for too long. When I get bored or lonely, I may become a bit destructive.
I am friendly with people and familiar dogs, but can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, so I need confident handling and therefore I'm not suitable for first-time owners.
Some time ago I had an incident with another stranger dog which was more related to my tendency to get overstimulatied. I'm not generally an aggressive guy. Currently I live with two other dogs in our home and I have no issues with them at all. In fact, I am calm and respectful towards them in our shared space. I am capable of positive and stable relationships with dogs I know and feel comfortable around. My reactivity tends to pop up when I meet new dogs, especially during first encounters or in high-energy situations. Having enough space and gradual introductions helps me to manage my behaviour.
My owners had me vaccinated, and I am in general good health, crate-, house- , and leash-trained. Not to show off or anything, but I also know some basic commands. I am still working on not jumping during greeting and leaving food that's not mine, alone. Some obedience refresher training would be great! An active household with time, structure, and experience with high-energy dogs would be just perfect for me. My current owners are seeking to find a stable, loving forever home due to family circumstances.
I need daily exercise, mental stimulation, obedience refreshers, reactivity training around other dogs, and calm-alone/crate training to stay balanced and well-behaved.
I get along with:
Dogs: Yes, with proper slow intro
Cats: No
Kids: Not sure
Health notes:
I am fully house trained, neutered, microchipped, my shots are up to date.
My adoption fee is $550 plus applicable taxes.
Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.
Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.
Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

As adopters of overseas dogs will be taking their dog home from the airport, they have a couple of weeks to decide if the dog is a fit.
