Hi there... my name is Bigs. Im a 1.5-year-old mixed breed dog, and while no one is quite sure what Im made of, Ive been told I look a bit like a giant Puggle - big eyes, a soft face, and a heart thats learning how to feel safe again.

My story didnt start out easy. I was abandoned in the summer heat along a quiet country road, crammed into a small dog crate with two other big dogs. It was scary and confusing, and it taught me to be a little cautious at first. But every day, with kindness and gentle words, Im learning that the world isnt such a bad place after all.

Im a shy guy, but underneath that is a very sweet soul who just needs time and patience to come out of his shell. Once I start to trust you, Ill be your quiet shadow, your soft-eyed companion, and your reminder that love can heal even the hardest beginnings. Im making wonderful progress every day, and Im so proud of how far Ive come.

If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who will love you deeply once he feels safe, I might be the one youve been waiting for. I cant wait to find a family of my very own - could it be you?

Please note that we operate by first come, first serve along with adoption approval. Wait times may vary depending on the time of week and day.
We are reserving Mondays and Tuesdays for appointments for members of the public who are immunocompromised or are still uncomfortable being in large crowds due to COVID-19.
If you have any questions about our adoptable pets, please call (913) 831-7722 or email adoptions@greatplainsspca.org. Our expert matchmakers look forward to finding you the perfect furry family member!
Adoption Requirements:
- Adopter must be 18 years of age or older.
- Adopters must complete a survey and present photo identification to meet any of our animals.
- For the safety and health of our animals, we do not ship pets.
- Pet adoption fees range from $60 to $350. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals needing our help. We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home. The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: age, size, behavior, medical condition, and public demand.
