My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Gordo! Gordo is an approximately one-and-a-half-year-old male Chihuahua mix, weighing around 11-pounds. And yes, for his little frame, he is adorably "gordo"! ;-) Also, check out that low-rider bod and cute little bow-legs! Gordo came to the shelter with four other dogs from the same property. A good samaritan reached out to rescues saying they knew the dogs were being mistreated, and the owner agreed to surrender them to our rescue. Gordo is a shy guy but once he knows and trusts you, he will approach you for pets (belly rubs are his favorite!). Gordo is social with other dogs and wouldn't mind a fur-buddy in his new home. He has a mellow to moderate energy level overall and is happy to sniff around the yard, then snuggle up for lap time. Gordo will need a patient home willing to give him time to adjust to his new indoor life. We recommend no small children for him due to his shyness. If Gordo sounds like the one for you, email us at chitownrescue@gmail.com for more info/meet and greet appointment. Gordo's adoption fee includes neuter surgery, vaccinations up to date including Rabies certificate, and microchip.

More about this rescue

"Chi Town" is short for "Chihuahua Town," which is our nick-name because we found that the majority of animals we were rescuing happened to be Chihuahuas and literally have a little “town” comprised of Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are one of the most over-bred dogs in Arizona and unfortunately many end up in need of rescue. However, we are not limited to saving just Chihuahas, we do save other breeds dependent on availability of space. Chi Town also specializes in rescuing dogs who require a little extra TLC and are at risk of euthanasia at county shelters. These dogs may not be doing well for a variety of reasons- fear, fear aggression, anxiety, or a medical issue to name a few. These are the dogs that typically have no other outlet and for which time is of the essence . After our dogs are medically cleared and/or their behavioral issues have improved, they are available for adoption.

Please be aware that we do our very best to answer all questions in a timely manner.

We are always seeking to help promote these special Chihuahuas who are too often overlooked in AZ shelters due to the sheer volume of this breed. Please share and like us on Facebook:
