My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet “Barry” (Baron von Houndstooth)

Barry is an 8-year-old, 63-pound American Foxhound who looks like he should be sitting on a porch at sunset, quietly watching the world go by.

The shelter describes him as calm, laid-back, thoughtful, and classy — a true Southern gentleman in every sense.

He is neutered, heartworm negative, and has a tattoo in his ear indicating he was a once a hunting dog.

Barry deserves a couch, a routine, and someone who sees what we see — a good boy who’s earned his peace.

Please stay tuned as we learn more about him.

More about this rescue

Hound Rescue is always in need of foster homes. We do not have a shelter so our ability to rescue is limited only by the number of families willing to take in a beagle in need. If interested go to http://houndrescue.com and click on "How to Foster."

Hound Rescue started in Austin, Texas in 1998. We are a small group of individuals who foster dogs in our homes. Hound Rescue also provides placement assistance to both shelters and others who need to find homes for hounds who for whatever reason have become stray.

Most of our animals come from high-kill facilities where they were scheduled to be euthanized. Because of the huge numbers of unwanted dogs, Hound Rescue Texas can only take owner surrenders on a limited basis as space permits in our foster home network.
