My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chapita is available for Foster to Adopt!

We'd love to welcome Chapita into the Fetch + Releash family on the next available flight. In order to secure a spot on the flight, she needs a committed foster-to-adopt family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you’ll be expected to take her home that same day. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.

Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog’s nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.

Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet Mississauga, ON for further vet care.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Chapita / Female / 6 years old / 35 lbs / Mixed Breed / From Mexico

Chapita is a quiet, soulful girl who is ready for a calm, loving home where she can finally exhale. Rescued from the street, she arrived shut down, sick, and terrified of humans. With time, patience, and gentle care, Chapita has learned that people can be kind. Once that trust is built, her loyalty is absolute.

Described by her caregivers as shy, gentle, and low-key, Chapita is not a fan of chaos and strongly prefers peaceful environments. Her ideal day includes finding the coziest corner in the house, perfecting the art of napping, and keeping a close eye on her person. When she decides you are safe, she becomes a serious cuddler who will quietly demand affection and then refuse to leave your side.

Chapita walks nicely on leash and has an impressively low energy level. Think garden snail, not adventure athlete. She enjoys very short bursts of play followed immediately by expert-level rest. She is not crate trained and her house training is still a work in progress, but she settles easily and thrives on predictable routines.

Chapita would be happiest with a low-key family whose idea of exercise is movie night and a glass of wine by the fire. A suburban lifestyle is strongly preferred, as city noise can be overwhelming for her. She has made it very clear she is not interested in hiking, biking, or weightlifting and seemed personally offended when these options were mentioned.

Chapita was treated for heartworm between December 2024 and February 2025, and her most recent SNAP test in December was negative. She is expected to go on to live a full and healthy life, however, she should be on year-round heartworm prevention medicine.

Chapita is ready for a soft, steady future with someone who understands that the quiet ones often love the hardest once they feel safe.

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
