My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

💙 Meet Blue — Ready for His Fresh Start! 💙

Blue is a 2-year-old charcoal Lab with soulful amber eyes, a goofy personality, and a heart full of love. He’s now at the shelter, neutered and up to date on vaccinations, and ready to find the family he’s been waiting for.

Blue is a fun-loving, affectionate boy who enjoys staying active and being close to his people. He has a joyful spirit, loves to explore, and brings plenty of personality wherever he goes. Whether he’s zooming around with a toy or soaking up attention, Blue makes it clear how much he enjoys life and companionship.

What makes Blue special:
• House-trained and uses a bell to ask to go outside
• Knows commands and enjoys learning, especially with tasty treats
• Very affectionate, cuddly, and people-oriented
• Playful, goofy, and full of charm
• Does well with children
• Loves toys, zoomies, hugs, and quality time with his people
• Loves water — splashing, wading, and getting wet — but needs a little help when it comes to swimming (life jacket recommended for this enthusiastic-but-not-quite-Michael-Phelps pup 😄)

Blue thrives with routine, enrichment, and positive guidance, and he’s eager to continue learning in a home that enjoys engaging with their dog. He would love a space where he can stretch his legs, play, and relax with his family afterward.

At his core, Blue is a sweet, friendly dog who wants connection. He’ll happily follow you around, greet you with enthusiasm, and settle in close when it’s time to relax. He’s the kind of companion who wants to be part of your day and your heart.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving dog with a big personality and even bigger potential, Blue would love to meet you.

More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
