My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

Colorado is laying on top of his den, curled up, body and eyes neutral as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened, he picks his head up to look back at the assessor with wide eyes but remains in his curled-up laying position on top of the den. Colorado allows all petting with the scratcher tool and is able to be pet on the head, cheeks, and down his shoulders directly with the assessor's hands, not engaging with the petting and remaining tense but tolerating it. Colorado is unable to be coaxed down from the top of the den, so pickup is unable to be attempted. He does, however, allow the assessor to apply light pressure under his chest and on his sides without issue.

Colorado tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.

Hi, my name is Colorado and the shelter has been a little overwhelming for me. I came from a home with many cats, who I've gotten along with well. Because I've lived in this home my entire life and have only been around one person, I have little experience with people and am hesitant of new experiences. I would enjoy living in a quiet home, preferably one with lots of vertical space so I have a place to perch and observe the room. I would also appreciate having experienced, patient adopter(s) who are willing to take things slow with me. I would benefit from socialization, using rewards whenever I make a small positive step like making eye contact, allowing petting, or sniffing your hand. I'd prefer to take things at my own pace and would appreciate some good old fashion TLC. If you can open your heart to adopt a cat like me, I'll hopefully have the confidence to come around to my new people, like you!
