My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Currently at her foster's home in Toronto.

Background:
Velvet was rescued this past summer from a city pound in Milyang, Korea during our Save 100 Dogs campaign. Since then, she has been staying at our boarding house where she lives peacefully with other dogs until she relocated to a foster home in Toronto, Ontario.

Personality and Socialization:
Velvet is a gentle and loving girl with a soft nature. Her energy level is moderate, and she gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes. With people, she is warm, affectionate, and friendly. She may be a little shy at first, but she opens up quickly, especially with treats. She enjoys being close, soaks up attention, and is always happy to curl up beside you. She has not been around cats.

Behaviour:
Velvet does well with car rides, grooming, and bath time. She is not fully at ease yet, but she will be patient and allow her human to take care of her. She enjoys her walks and, although she can get a little curious about her surroundings, she follows her humans without trouble. Velvet has been quiet, sweet, friendly and attentive. She uses indoor pee pads when needed but also does her business outdoors.

Health and Diet:
Velvet has received full veterinary care. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on regular parasite prevention. She eats dry kibble and has no known allergies or special food requirements. When she was first rescued, she tested positive for Hepatozoon from a tick bite, but she completed her treatment and is now healthy and ready for her forever home.

Ideal Home:
Velvet is an easygoing and very affectionate dog. She would enjoy having another gentle dog companion, but she would also be happy as the only dog if her family works from home or is retired and able to spend plenty of time with her. She is a sweet and loving girl, and anyone who brings her home will be very fortunate.

More about this rescue

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.

We divide our mission across three basic pillars: RESCUE, ADOPT, and ENGAGE.

Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:

RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.

ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.

ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
