My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Elena and I am a 12-year-old Schnauzer girl who weighs 15 lbs.    The name Elena means “bright, shining light” and I am just that!  My foster mom calls me “Velcro Dog” because I just LOVE being right by her side.  I’m affectionate, curious and laid back.

Favorite Things: Elena LOVES to be outside (but not for too long as she can get hot).  She loves walks and nothing makes her happier than being around “her” people.  Toys don’t mean much to her, but getting petted by her favorite person is definitely one of her favorite things. Overall, she is happy lounging on her dog bed or her blanket.

Training & Manners: Elena is fully housetrained in her foster home, so a regular and consistent schedule will need to be maintained in her forever home.  She walks well on a leash and loves a car ride.

Health and Care: Elena is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and had a recent dental cleaning.  She does have pre-pancreatitis so will require a Prescription low/no fat diet dog food (no table scraps for this gal).  She will need weekly medicated baths for her itchy skin.  She gets very fluffy with her fine hair, so brushing and grooming will be a must.  She will also require her monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative; just like any other dog.

Other Animals: Elena has experience with dogs of all sizes.  She also has been in a home with a cat and had no issues with a feline friend.

Children: Due to her small size, age and tendency to startle easily, a home with younger children would not be best for Elena. However, respectful teens would be suitable.

Ideal Home: Elena does bark at things and has some anxiety when left home alone.  Therefore, a single-family home would be necessary, as neighbors with shared walls would not be ideal.  She does tend to startle easily, so a quieter household would be best for this sweet girl.  She can be left alone for several hours and has free rein of her foster home.  At night, she curls up and sleeps soundly in her dog bed.

Overall: If you are looking for a loyal gal who is ready to be your best friend, Elena could be for you.

Are you the one for Elena? Then visit our website at www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. Her adoption donation is $250.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
