My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mittens is a handsome 1 year old tabby guy with the coolest orange eyes in town.

He loves to be where his people and other cat friends are and he is the most lovey guy ever. His favorite passtime is sitting in a lap while his foster is at their desk. He’s a super cuddly guy but he is also super playful. His favorite toy is a string on a stick.

Mittens can be a shy guy so he would do best with another friendly cat or with his friend Pearl. Once he’s around his friends he gains a lot of confidence.

All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Young cats have an adoption fee of $175. Unless otherwise indicated, all our cats and kittens are best suited for indoor-only life.

Their adoption process

1.
Submit Application

We will only be calling applications that are a possible match for the dog or cat.

2.
Interview

The case manager of that dog or cat will contact you by phone or email to set up a meet and greet,if you are a possible match for them.

3.
Meet the Pet

If they think you are a good match, we may set up a home visit or the case manager will request pictures of your home.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

Take the Pet Home

All pets have a 10 day adjustment period for a home visit.

Additional adoption info

AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. those who look like a good match.
Adoption fees for DOGS are:
Puppies (up to age 18 months): $425(plus $200 spay/neuter deposit)Cash only.
Adult (18 months - 8 years old): $350
Seniors (8 years and up): $225
(There is an additional $200 spay/neuter deposit for Adults/Seniors not already neutered/spayed.)
Adoption fees for CATS are:
Kittens up to 6 months.-$200
Young adult cats 7 months -3 years $175
Adults cats - 4-7 years -$150
Seniors cats-8 and up. $100
Fee includes basic shots, spay or neuter, and microchip
All cats are FIV/FELV tested

The Alternative Humane Society is an all-volunteer, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Whatcom County, WA. AHS has been helping animals and educating the public since 1977.

We have no shelter, office, or paid staff. Our programs include Canine and Feline Foster & Adoption, Spay & Neuter Assistance, and Community Cats Information and Referral.

Mission Statement: The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats and helping them find and stay in permanent loving homes.

• To prevent unwanted dog and cat births through spay and neuter assistance
