My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Calliope

2 years, spayed female, 32 lbs

Terrier mix

Calliope is an old soul trapped in a dog's body. If you look her in the eyes, you will understand. She is an interesting long-and-low variety with scruffy brindled hair. She LOVES playing with other dogs and needs a home with another young playful dog (bigger or smaller than her is just fine - she will wear them out).

LIKES: Playing with other dogs (wrestle, tug of war, zoomie races), treats, greeting her humans, a soft snuggly spot on the couch.

DISLIKES: Strangers, especially men. Loud noises like fireworks or hammers, motorcycles, etc.

PERSONALITY TRAITS: Calliope has experienced some abuse in her past and is wary in some situations. When she sees a male-presenting human she will run and hide. She will also hide when visitors come into her home. She freezes in a corner or hiding spot, but will let you pick her up. She took about a week to trust the man in her foster home, and has learned to appreciate the fact that he feeds her. She "roo-roos" at him (she can be a talker) when she wants breakfast or dinner. She loves walks and exploring new places with a trusted person and she is very quiet and polite in the car and will jump in on her own. She has decent recall in the yard at her foster home when she knows a treat is involved, and she knows how to "sit".

CRATE TRAINING: She will happily go into a crate for a treat and settles down without any fuss.

POTTY TRAINING: 100% potty trained in her foster home

OTHER/MISC: Calliope needs a securely fenced yard as she is more comfortable pottying freely than on leash. She is going to need someone who is willing to give her some time to trust. Calliope is fine with cats.

Tell us about yourself, family, other pets, and how CALLIOPE will mesh with your lifestyle. Qualifying applicants will be contacted by our Adoption Coordinator with next steps and an opportunity to set up a Meet & Greet.

Our process is NOT a “first come, first served” process. (We DO NOT hold pets for later consideration.) Our team carefully reviews and interviews applicants for the best possible fit for each adoptable pet, and potential family. Submitting an application does not guarantee a call or response from our rescue. Our volunteers will screen the applications and reach out if it is determined to be a good fit.

We look forward to facilitating a positive and solid adoption for CALLIOPE as well as her future family.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with an online application, submitted via our website. We do not guarantee a response, but will reach out if we think that it's a good fit and then arrange for a meet and greet. We do not hold dogs for more than 48 hours for a meet and greet, and if the dog is scheduled to go to an adoption event it will not be held back. We do not transport dogs out of area. We do same-day adoptions at our meet and greet appointments and adoption events. We offer a one-week trial period to our adopters to make sure that things work out, and we encourage adopters to be familiar with the 3-3-3 rule for dogs. We also highly encourage puppy classes for our puppies, as training is very important in ensuring that dogs stay in their forever homes.
