My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Spike!
Are you looking for a dog who has the fun energy of puppy but already knows some of the basics?! Spike may be your man.
Spike is a 9-month-old, 50lb Shepherd mix who is looking for a fresh start. He previously lived in a quiet, single-person home where he learned some of the ropes, but will need more training and guidance. Due to his owner's health, he is back with us and looking for his new teammate!
Spike is currently housebroken and crate trained, but will need help with more training, like manners and leash walking. Spike is a healthy, active boy who is ready to explore the world with his new crew! Spike's favorite hobby, you ask? Belly rubs- for sure!
Spike can be a little timid when he meets dogs and new people at first. With a patient leader and slow introduction, we think his confidence will soar. Come meet Spike and learn what it is like to have a forever bestie!

More about this shelter

We're a small shelter in Vermont covering 11 towns in Windsor County. We have a small but very dedicated staff, and an active volunteer program. We have been rescuing cats and dogs since our inception in 1941, when a wonderful woman turned her barn into a shelter. Since then we've grown quite a bit and have recently redone our entire kennel area - we have sun tubes for natural light, radiant heat in the floors, a music program and an aromatherapy program. All through the generous donations of the public. Our cats live comfortably in community cat rooms where they are free to roam and climb and play. We have acres of field for dog walking. We have a large puppy room, and a larger still puppy play area outside. We also have a large indoor room for people to meet dogs during inclement weather.
