Ellie Mae is a sweet, well-loved girl. She has been cherished since she was just two months old, and it truly shows in her gentle manners and loving personality. Ellie Mae spent her life inside the home, relaxing loose in the house and splitting her sleep time between a cozy dog bed and her person’s bed—she absolutely loves sleeping with people and being close to her humans.
She is also deeply bonded to her best friend Andy, so they must go home together. If you are looking for two dogs to join your family, you couldn't find a better pair.
She is noted to be housetrained and crate trained, comfortable spending time in her crate when needed. When left alone for a few hours, Ellie Mae keeps herself busy by quietly playing with her toys, though she would much rather be with her people. She is used to everyday household life, including fireworks and loud noises, and doesn’t show interest in chasing cars, joggers, or other distractions outside.
Ellie Mae is playful and fun, with a big love for balls, squeaky toys, plushies, and tug toys. Fetch, tug, chase, and wrestling are some of her favorite games. She has received professional training and already knows sit, stay, shake, and come. On leash, she can be a bit of a puller and would benefit from some gentle leash training to help her shine even more.
She has successfully lived with cats, dogs, guinea pigs, and children of all ages, including newborns, and does well with other animals once she has time to get to know them. Ellie Mae can be a picky eater, but her biggest wish is simple—to be part of a loving home where she doesn’t have to be alone too often. She’s a loyal, affectionate companion ready to curl up beside you and be your best friend.

More about this shelter
Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.
As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
