Meet Barney: Your gentle giant with a heart as big as his paws! Are you ready to welcome a majestic companion into your life? With his handsome looks and soulful eyes, Barney is more than just a pretty face—he’s a loving, loyal, and playful pup who’s eager to find his forever family. Barney adores meeting new people and will patiently wait for pets and attention, always standing close with a hopeful smile! This young boy is quick to adapt to new things, enjoys learning, and is already mastering leash walking and crate time. He’s a pro at car rides and is a groomer’s dream, where he patiently enjoys all pampering! Treats? - He’ll sit politely and take them gently from your hand! He never lived in a home, and was a little unsure of what to do, but after doing some looking around, he decided to stay and get comfy! He keeps his area tidy and loves sprawling on a cozy blanket for maximum comfort. Cats were a little scary at first, but he now enjoys sniffing them and when they rub between his legs. This gentle boy is the king of play with other dogs—whether it’s a game of chase, wrestling, or tug-of-war. Barney’s ideal home includes: a large, 5-foot fenced yard for zoomies and sunbathing, another playful dog friend (or regular playdates!), a dog-loving cat, older children who can handle a big, bouncy-but-gentle pup, and a family ready to give him love, guidance, and plenty of head scratches! Barney prefers to have his own space from his canine friends to enjoy his meals—just a little respect and quiet time and he’s a happy camper! If you’re searching for a gentle, affectionate, and loyal companion who will fill your days with joy and your heart with love, Barney is waiting to meet you. Give this big-hearted boy the chance he deserves, and he’ll reward you with endless devotion and a lifetime of smiles.

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
