Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spike is a three-year-old grey and white cat with a soft heart and a quiet charm. When you first meet him, he may seem a little nervous—new places and new faces can be a lot for this sensitive guy. But with a bit of patience, gentle words, and loving care, Spike slowly begins to relax and show his sweet side.
Once he feels safe, Spike discovers his favorite things: cozy napping spots, peaceful companionship, and gentle head pets. He’s the kind of cat who will curl up nearby, bringing a calm and comforting presence to your home. Spike would thrive with an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let him bloom at his own pace.
He is also neutered and up to date on all his core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. If you’re looking for a loving companion who will reward your patience with quiet affection and cozy moments, Spike may be the perfect match for you. 🐱💫 Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
