Hayes is a 2.5-year-old male mini poodle mix with a soft heart and a gentle spirit. He came to us as a breeder surrender and, understandably, was very unsure of humans at first—crouching when approached and running away from hands that just wanted to pet him. Despite that, he has always been wonderful with other dogs and bonded immediately with his two doggy foster brothers.
In just a few short weeks, Hayes has made incredible progress. While he’s still shy and cautious, he now comes when I hold out my hand and shows his silly, playful side once he feels safe and has time to be himself. He truly blossoms when he’s allowed to move at his own pace. He also gets along with children.
Hayes is still working on potty training. We’ve made some progress, though the frigid temperatures haven’t helped—he is not a fan of the cold (but absolutely loves his sweater!). He’s also not very food-motivated and was initially uninterested in treats altogether, but he’s slowly learning to enjoy both treats and mealtimes and will now gently take treats from my hand.
At night, Hayes transforms into the ultimate cuddle bug. He loves snuggling up with his humans, is an excellent bed sleeper, has no nighttime accidents, and will happily stay in bed for 10+ hours if you let him. He enjoys being petted so much that when you stop, he’ll softly nudge you for more—his quiet way of asking for love.
Hayes is looking for a patient, kind home that understands he’s still learning that humans are safe and good. He may be slow to warm up, but once he does, his affection is incredibly special. With time, consistency, and a gentle heart, Hayes will reward his person with deep trust and quiet devotion.
To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn`t obligate you, but it is the first step. We don`t get to all of the inquires but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!
