My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Spike!

You wouldn't think it from looking at this handsome young man, but Spike has had a pretty rough start to his young life. Spike was born in a house overwhelmed by cats and was rescued with his sweet mom who had just given birth to him and his sister the night before. His momma has luckily been adopted, but we're still looking for the perfect home for Spike!

As a baby Spike had struggled to thrive and put on weight, and had dealt with some pretty extensive GI issues. After lots of testing, diet and supplement trials, and lots of care and butt baths from his foster mom and kennel staff, he's doing great and has finally grown big and strong! With the help of a safe place and proper nourishment we're happy to report that his tummy problems have resolved, although it's possible that he may always need a sensitive stomach or specific-ingredient diet to keep him healthy and regular.

Spike is back at the shelter and enjoying spending lots of time in kitten playdates, getting love and cuddles from shelter staff, and loves to sprint around as fast as his little kitten legs can carry him. He has the prettiest golden eyes & tiger-tabby markings, and the cutest little "meep!" of a meow that he uses when he wants attention, or lunch. He's going to bring so much life into any home, and we can't wait to find his forever family!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
