My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arthur is a sweet, thoughtful 4-year-old boy with a gentle soul and a big heart just waiting for the right person to earn it. He can be shy when first meeting new people, but if you respect his boundaries and give him a little space, Arthur will do the brave thing and come to you on his own terms. And once he feels safe? You’ve got a best friend for life.

When Arthur settles in, he is affectionate, playful, and incredibly loving. He enjoys pets, cuddles, and—no surprise—food! He’s a smart and curious boy who takes in the world carefully. Even when he gets excited around his favorite people, he’s gentle and makes an effort to keep all four paws on the ground.

Arthur can be nervous around some men and is afraid of sticks, so a patient, understanding home will help him continue building confidence. He does know what he loves, though: rope toys, balls, cozy cuddles, and romping around in the snow.

Right now, Arthur is enrolled in a training program with Playtime Pet Resort trainer Harmonie, where he’s working on building confidence, leash manners, and foundational skills he’ll need to thrive in his new life.

Arthur would do best with someone who understands that trust is earned—and that the reward for that patience is a truly special dog. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal companion who will blossom with love and consistency, Arthur may be the one for you.

Since we do not have any history on Arthur with kids, we will not place him with children under 16 years old. He will be neutered prior to adoption. He weighed 96 lbs. when rescued and was underweight, so he will be over 100 lbs. when he reaches a good weight.

If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our dog adoption application here: http://medfieldshelter.com/adopt. Our adoption fee for dogs ages 7 months to 7 years is $450. Dogs 8 years and up are $250. Every dog we place is vaccinated, wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash.

With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both.

All adoption meetings are by appointment only as we only have two employees. Our manager or one of our volunteers will be happy to set up an appointment for you to come meet the pets, but please fill out the adoption application first.

More about this shelter

The Medfield Animal Shelter's mission is to rescue lost or abandoned animals and provide for their comfort and safety until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes. We are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will ever be euthanized because it has run out of time to find a home. We are committed to ending the overpopulation of pets that results in an estimated 5 million companion pets being euthanized at shelters in the U.S. every year, therefore all cats, rabbits and dogs adopted from us are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. We also sponsor a low cost spay/neuter clinic for cats at our shelter once a month.
