Meet Bruce ,quite possibly the most wonderful terrier mix you’ll ever have the pleasure of knowing. He came into our care as a stray and this sweet guy was a little banged up and battered. Now after a little TLC this handsome boy is doing much better.
Bruce is a sweet, gentle soul with a heart as big as his adorable personality. He’s a total ham in the best way soaking up attention, leaning in for love, and charming everyone he meets. Sunshine walks are his happy place, especially when they’re followed by plenty of outdoor lounging, belly rubs, and being spoiled with treats (his favorite!).
This gentle teddy bear is looking for his best buddy ,someone to share adventures with during the day and cozy couch time in the evenings. Whether you’re exploring the world together or just relaxing side by side, Bruce is happiest simply being with his person.
Through no fault of his own, Bruce found himself in a shelter after testing heartworm positive, as his former owner didn’t have him on prevention. With the proper treatment Bruce can live out his days happy and healthy. This gentle boy definitely deserves his happy ending.
Bruce's $250 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip AND transport fee to a location near you. We currently have transportation to CT, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, GA, and TN. Please email transport@hssm.org for more information on transports!
--> If you are interested in adopting Bruce please fill out our online application here: (https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 - Dog). A staff member will reach out if your application is approved to discuss the adoption process. No fenced in yard required, and YES - we adopt to families with children! The adoption will not be final until the adoption contract is discussed and signed. Transports are arranged for specific dates, typically within 1-3 weeks of approving your application. Adopters will meet at a designated meeting spot to pick up their new companions. For further information, please first fill out the application referenced above.
**Due to import regulations we are not able to adopt to MA or RI residents at this time.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. HSSM’s facility was built using the nation’s leading Children’s Museums as models, with bright colors and oversized architectural sculptures. We offer: pet adoptions, foster program, return-to-owner efforts, spay/neuter and wellness services, volunteer program, pet transports, youth initiatives, a food pantry and pet retention program, an on-site thrift store, and more! In 2024, HSSM cared for over 5,000 homeless pets in house and touched over 16,000 animals in the community.
Since our incorporation in 1952, HSSM has been committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. HSSM is the only Open Admissions Animal Shelter in South Mississippi, meaning we accept all animals in need, regardless of age, breed, health, or temperament. This commitment ensures that no lost pet is turned away. Oftentimes our open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets in our shelter HSSM has vowed to change this.
