JJ is a wonderfully sweet and loving young pug who has experienced a lot of change in her short life. She is almost 2 years old. After her original owner passed away, she was lovingly taken in by his son. When he was no longer able to keep her, he reached out for rescue help to make sure JJ could find the stable, forever home she deserves. Through it all, JJ has remained confident, affectionate, and deeply devoted to her people. JJ is extremely human-oriented and loves to follow you from room to room. The moment you sit down, she is ready to shower you with kisses and ear licks. She did not grow up around many dogs, so she is still learning, but she is curious and open to making new canine friends. She's met big and small dogs, and she gets quite playful when she feels comfortable. At night, she prefers to sleep in bed with you, head on your pillow, complete with the classic pug snores that make falling asleep even sweeter. She is well-behaved, fully trained, and clearly was very well cared for. JJ deserves to always be treated like the princess she is. She would be happiest in a home where her person is around most of the time or can take her along on daily adventures. Our team has completely fallen in love with her, and we know the lucky family who adopts her will feel the same. Shes vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Shes being fostered in Hayward and will be at the Joybound event this Saturday in Walnut Creek.

After an application is received, we will reach out to schedule an interview. If the applicant is a renter, we will require landlord approval. If the applicant has a yard, we will require a digital walkthrough of the fence line. Once approved, the adopter is eligible to connect with the foster of the dog they're interested in for a meet and greet. If all goes well, the adopter can take the dog home!

Bay Area Pug Project (BAPP) is more than just a rescue - it’s a movement.
California suffers from a backyard breeding epidemic, and pugs are sadly one of the outputs. Pug rescues across the nation come to our state to save pugs from unsafe, unwanted, and undesirable situations, and there can never be enough help to tackle this crisis.
Founded by a group of experienced and passionate volunteers, BAPP was born from a shared love of pugs and a desire to build a strong, informed community around the breed. We believe that true rescue goes beyond saving dogs—it means educating the public, advocating for responsible ownership, and collaborating with other groups for maximum impact.
We’re dedicated to supporting brachycephalic breed enthusiasts and the communities where neglect or limited education are common, offering resources and guidance to promote better care and health outcomes.
Pugs are more than cute snorts and curly tails—they’re complex little souls who deserve to be understood and cared for by informed and pug-obsessed homes like ours. Join us in making a difference.
