Spade is a handsome 5-year-old German Shepherd with a striking lineage (black-and-tan GSD mom and a white GSD dad). Through no fault of his own, Spade is looking for a new forever home because his owner is being deployed overseas — a tough goodbye for everyone involved 💔.
Spade is a total lovebug once he feels comfortable. He lives for snuggles, belly rubs, and a good game of fetch. His favorite things include squeaky Kong toys, chew bones, and quality time with his people. He can be a little anxious at first and may need some extra patience, but once he warms up, you’ll have a loyal, cuddly shadow by your side.
He does well with other dogs when introduced slowly. He hasn’t had experience with young children or cats yet, so a home without them (or with older, dog-savvy kids) may be best. When the zoomies hit, Spade loves to run, so a fenced yard would be his dream setup.
Spade is neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccinations — ready to start his next chapter with you.

Founded in 2005, we are a volunteer home-based rescue group run by dedicated volunteers. Our dogs live in volunteer homes as family members with the same love, care and attention they would receive in an adoptive home.
We provide training, socialization, vet care and evaluation for all of the dogs in our care. All of our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
GSDRI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization licensed by the state of Iowa.
