Precious arrived at ACC as a stray, so her history is largely unknown. In the shelter, she has shown herself to be shy and sensitive at first, but friendly and capable of warming up with gentle handling. She may appear nervous in new situations, especially when coming out of her crate, but with a slow approach and treats, she begins to relax and engage.
My Ideal Home
Precious would thrive in a calm, patient home that understands fearful dogs and is willing to move at her pace. She will benefit from a predictable routine, low-pressure interactions, and confidence-building through positive reinforcement. Choice-based handling, gradual exposure to new experiences, and allowing her to settle in during a decompression period will help her feel safe and secure.
Good with Kids?
ACC recommends a home without children under 13, as Precious is fearful and can become overwhelmed in busy or unpredictable environments.
Behavior Determination
Level 3. Precious displays fear and anxiety in the shelter environment but is able to warm up with gentle handling. She will do best with an experienced adopter who understands shy dogs and can provide a calm, supportive transition into a home.
Other Fun Facts
Precious gently takes treats, leans into affection once she feels safe, and shows how resilient she can be when given patience and kindness. With time, consistency, and love, she has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion 🐾
My foster writes: I've never met such an angel baby pie moosh in my life. Precious is a heartbreaker. I love her sweetness, her affection, her smoky eyes, the widow's peak that frames her face. In our first week together, she's been glued to me, snoozing for much of the day, curled around me or on my lap as I work from home. She's starting to get curious about toys, and I imagine that her playful side will come out more and more as she continues to develop a sense of safety and confidence. She's treat motivated and smart, so training Precious should be easy and fun for her future family. She's already very polite: though she's interested in people food, she sits patiently waiting as I prepare food for myself-and climbs on the couch to wait for me to finish my own meals at the table. If you're a homebody like me and want a cuddle-bug, a couch potato, a love sponge, and a devoted companion, Precious is your girl.
