My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack likes to keep an eye on things from a distance. He enjoys sitting by the window or on the deck, watching the birds. During the day, he spends most of his time resting in a quiet area of the house. In the evening, he will sit at the end of your bed and purr, but he doesn’t enjoy too much direct attention (aside from the occasional tummy rub).

In his new home, Jack would need a calm environment, without children or other pets. He seems to bond better with a single person rather than having many people around. If the neighborhood is quiet, he would likely enjoy going outside, as he loves lying in the sun.

He adores his cat kibble but does not enjoy other types of cat food or treats. He is very sensitive to changes in his diet and requires a careful, gradual transition when switching food bags or brands.

He likes his litter box to be kept very clean, and he may urinate outside of it if it is not cleaned frequently.

He does not enjoy vet visits and becomes stressed, but sprinkling gabapentin over his food a few hours before an appointment makes the experience easier.

More about this shelter

Founded in Montreal in 1869, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (now known simply as the Montreal SPCA) was the first animal-welfare organization in Canada. It is not known under whose influence the society was formed, but its history acknowledges assistance from animal-welfare societies in France, England and the United States. In its early years, the SPCA concentrated primarily on improving the treatment of work horses, which were used all across the island of Montreal. The SPCA later began working on additional issues, such as humane dog control, cock-fighting and the killing of wild birds. The SPCA has come a long way since its beginnings: today, it is the largest animal-protection organization in Quebec, speaking on behalf of animals wherever there is ignorance, cruelty, exploitation or neglect.
