My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Layla: The Beautiful Shepard from Kosovo!

Layla has a bit of a "Cinderella" story. She was part of a litter dropped off at a shelter gate overnight before her eyes were even open. While her siblings have all found homes, Layla has been waiting patiently for her turn to travel to the US and find her forever family. Raised by loving volunteers, she is an outgoing, resilient girl who is finally ready to meet you!

Layla’s Personality Profile:
The Ultimate Playmate: Layla lives for other dogs. She has an exuberant play style, meaning she’s all-in! She thrives with canine friends who match her high energy and love a good wrestling match.

Affectionate & Fun: Our shelter staff adore her because she is genuinely fun to be around. Once she gets over her initial one-minute "shy phase" with new people, she is a total wiggle-butt who just wants to be near you.

Toy Enthusiast: Layla loves "shopping" for her own toys. There’s nothing she loves more than picking out a favorite and doing a victory lap around the yard.

Eager to Learn: While she’s a pro at keeping her crate clean, she’s spent most of her life in a kennel. She’ll need a patient leader to help her master the art of house training and refine her leash-walking skills (she’s a bit of a puller because she’s so excited to see the world!).

Ideal Home: A household with another playful dog would be her dream come true. She needs a family ready to continue her training and reward her with lots of love. Does sound like you? If so let’s get our family started and hit that appl button today!

MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
